| We are spinners, weavers, dyers, knitters and others who encourage learning and doing fiber activities in the State of Indiana through a network of contacts. In 1993, we began to connect with each other on a regular basis to share news, resources, and inspiration. Since then, SWIFT has networked more than 30 groups and hundreds of individuals interested in Fiber Arts through its quarterly newsletters, study groups, traveling exhibits, special events and outreach endeavors. SWIFT is a volunteer non-profit organization composed of people like you. We invite all interested adults to join us at any volunteer level. |
| What do we do? |
| Make dreams come true! For example, how does a guild bring a guest instructor from beyond the blue? Have SWIFT network with other groups to share the costs. How do you get the word out that you have a loom to sell? Place an ad with exposure to a target group of buyers in the entire State of Indiana. Is your group having a fantastic show or sale? Invite the people who would most love to know and go through the SWIFT newsletter.
The governing body of SWIFT is composed of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer elected for 2-year terms by the membership. Standing Committee Chairs (Newsletter, Exhibit, Study Group, Special Events, Nominations and Outreach) are appointed for one year renewable terms by the Board. These positions are filled by busy, creative people on a volunteer basis working together via phone, email and one meeting a year. This annual meeting is held in March at Conner Prairie Living History Museum in Noblesville, Indiana, just north of Indianapolis. Folks gather to share ideas, work on projects, feast and fellowship. We talk about things we would like to happen in Indiana and how to make it so. By networking, we have found we can make it work! |
